Should you or your family need urgent medical attention which is serious enough to require an ambulance, then the Hospital which you are expected to use, and which the ambulance driver is likely to take you to is, the ‘Ospedale Santa Maria delle Grazie'.
It is worth familiarising yourself with its location so that should you be unfortunate enough to have an emergency; it is one less thing to worry about.Should you or your family need urgent medical attention, but are capable of travelling by car, then the Hospital on the US Navy support site at Gricignano is to be used.
The Italian ambulance control centre in Naples has an English speaking call handler available. You must quote your civilian address to the control centre. Your civilian address for your home is available from the Property Manager at Villa Britannia. It is wise for you to make a note of your civilian address to aid the local Italian ambulance service. Once the ambulance service has been requested you are strongly advised to contact one of the BFC (SE) duty numbers above. The BFC (SE) duty staff will then endeavour to meet you at the hospital (if in Naples area) and provide assistance where necessary.
Patients are advised that the Emergency Room at USNH Naples does not cater for serious medical emergencies. Under no account should patients arrange private transport directly to USNH Naples for serious medical emergencies.
Patients who require non-urgent emergency treatment out-of-hours should in the first instance contact the duty BFC (SE) personnel. Patients will then be given appropriate advice. Under no account should patients attend the Emergency Room at USNH Naples without first contacting the duty BFC (SE) staff. Failure to do so may result in personal charges being levied against the patient if attendance was to be deemed inappropriate.
Specific instructions to other Italian ISODETs for emergency healthcare have been issued to the local Support Unit. Patients are still advised to contact the duty BFC (SE) numbers after attendance to hospital.
