Aim
Since 2005 Southern Europe has had a MoD Social Worker allocated to provide a Specialist Community Welfare
Service. This worker is based in Naples, but provides services to the service communities in all of Italy.
The aim of the service is to as much as possible “mirror” the services that would be provided by different
support organizations in the UK, both military and civilian.
Examples of the Services that can be provided to the British community in Italy
- Inspection, Registration of Child minders : Teddy Tots Crèche to UK Oftsed Standards.
- Victim Support
- Volunteers Group
- Training including direct childcare training, access to Courses offered by British Forces Early Years Service and SSAFA Forces Help.
- Parent Groups
Providing support to a wide array of welfare related issues:
- Family Difficulties
- Service Separation
- Relationship Difficulties
- Child care issues
- Financial problems
- Signposting to relevant UK support agencies
- Applications for charity assistance from military and civilian sources
- Special Needs Assistance
- Investigation and Recommendation for Compassionate Posting, Travel and Leave in complicated cases
The service is completely confidential (unless risk of harm to self or others) Seeks to provide service
compatible with NPFS, RM Welfare, AWS, BFEYS, BFSWS and SSAFA Forces Help. And to link with relevant
professionals in Italy.
